Hello Friends!
The weather finally cooling off outside, and ther is still time to plant all of the wonderfu fall vegetables in your edible garden in Marin County.
It is officially time to clean out (most of) your summer veggies. However, you can leave some of them longer if they are still producing for you and you have the room!
As you remove your veggies it’s best to leave the roots in the ground to help protect the soil micro-biome. So, cut at the base of the stem, if possible. Warm season veggies utilize a lot of nutrients from the soil, so it is also time to add some nutrients back. Organic compost, soil, worm castings, and an organic soil amendment are great for replenishing the soil!
Then it’s time to plant your wonderful fall veggies, herbs, and flowers. We use seeds and starts this time of year for the best harvests!
We always use the direct sow method for root crops (radish, turnip, beets, etc.) and love seeds for peas and greens as well. But, starts work for those too if that is easier for you or you are planting on the later side…. Now is a great time to plant veggie starts for most fall veggies (list is not complete above (o: ).
What is your favorite cool season crop to grow? Do you have questions? Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have or send harvest photo my way…..I would love to see it!
Happy Harvesting!
xoxo
