Hello Friends!
The weather is heating up outside, but ther is still time to plant all of the quintessential summer vegetables in your edible garden in Marin County.
It is also an important time to be checking on your irrigation systems and watering schedule to make sure your plants are getting hydrated. Watering is the morning is optimal with moisture spread consistently throughout your garden soil. The roots do need some oxygen too, however, so the soil needs a chance to dry out a bit in between waterings.
Summer is when edible plants grow fast and garden friends and foes are everywhere! I recommend checking on your garden once per day to stay on top of any pest pressures, diseases, or overgrowth. It’s also a good way to stay on top of your harvests so none of your precious summer goodness goes to waste. I like to create a schedule for checking on my garden. My favorite time to go into the garden is in the morning with a warm cup of coffee or tea, but you can pick a routine that works best for you. Nap time for your toddler, after you walk the dog, or when you get home from work might be better times for you, but the important thing is consistency.
I hope you enjoy summer in your garden! Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have or send harvest photo my way…..I would love to see it!
Happy Harvesting!
xoxo
Karin
